Hi my name is Helix, you may know me as one of the Forget Me Nots. If you have not heard about us please check out our story on the AHCR Facebook page.
My life has been what most would consider very sad. I was rescued along with 15 other adult dogs from a hoarding situation in April of this year. I have spent most if not all of my life living on a farm with the other dogs and have not benefited from human socialization until we came to Almost Home and earned our title as the Forget Me Nots. I have learned so much since I have been rescued but I'm still figuring it all out. I would like nothing more than to find a family of my own to spend the rest of my life as the carefree and happy boy that I should be. As I'm learning to open up more the volunteers are calling me names like sweet boy, goofy and silly.
I am in foster with 3 resident dogs, 3 cats and 2 children. I LOVE to play with the other dogs and I will NEED a home that has another dog for me to be with. I don't mind the cats but sometimes when I'm feeling playful I will give them a chase but I won't hurt them. I don't mind the kids (10 and 11yrs) in my foster home, I would be ok with children in my forever home as long as they are old enough to understand my needs. I know my name and I am learning "sit". I am still a little bit unsure of the leash there for I do not go on walks yet so will need a large, secure yard to run and play in, but practice makes perfect. One day I will understand that the leash means we get to go out and do fun things. I haven't experienced much of the world still as I am still nervous in new situations and the leash still makes me uncomfortable. I do not like the vacuum cleaner or hair driers and I will run away and bark and howl when they are being used. The noise from the furnace made me scared too but I have learned that its not really a scary thing. I need a family that will be patient and continue to work with me. The people at AHCR will be there to support my family when I find my home.
